Life is what you make it... where's the cheesecake recipe?

Mendela National Stadium... Kenya vs Uganda... Uganda won 1-0, it was awesome.

So a few in the group decided to try out their entrepreneurial skills and open up a food stand. They made pancakes and sold them in the market. A local reporter took pictures and interviewed them. The article came out in the local gossip paper under the subsection column "WTF" and surprised us all... apparently we had been there for "weeks" and were scaring the other food stands who were "going to cast spells on us." The article said that we were making exorbitant profits and would soon dominate the local economy. The funny thing is, we made 150 shillings profit... about 8 cents.

Easiest way to make friends in Uganda: bring a camera.

This is our raft. Our guide was on the Uganda national kayaking team. He told us some one-liner jokes that were pretty chuckle-worthy and then said "what do you call a black person flying a plane?" "uh?... ummm... what?" "a pilot you racist!" It made us all laugh.

We went rafting on the Nile! Can you see me? (Really, this picture is our boat. I was middle right.) It was a blast, though slightly terrifying! Our raft flipped twice and someone busted their chin open while going down the waterfall (8 foot drop). Nevertheless I felt pretty safe because they had about 20 kayaks ready to rescue us.



So a few years ago they had elections in the town we live in, Mukono, that were tampered with. The woman who really won was thrown in jail. Later on, the judiciary ordered a re-vote which happened last week. The lady won definitively, a blow to the ruling power that supported the loser. This is someone's finger that is stained for having voted. We all stayed inside with the lights off all night as chaos went on outside (think Gators winning a national championship).
